Some Journey For Jenna As She Launches The HR Dept Docklands

A country girl who hails from Warrnambool, Victoria has brought a burgeoning career in human resources to the business hub of Melbourne, setting up her own company in Docklands.

Jenna Paulin has set up The HR Dept Docklands, providing high quality yet affordable HR advice and support to the growing SME community in the area.

The move into self-employment brings Jenna some local focus after years of interstate and international travel, following work in both public and private sectors as diverse as manufacturing, mining, health, government, hospitality and IT.

It’s all combined with the country work ethic, created in a family environment in which Jenna’s parents run their own business which has given her an understanding of the commitment that is required to establish a successful business.

Jenna, who is 27, knows it is going to be challenging. “Setting up a business is extremely demanding and requires a lot of effort, especially at the infant stage,” she said.

“However, I know the benefits and I hope one day to be able to provide my own family with what I was able to gain from my parents, which is a loving, supportive environment where I was well provided for and encouraged to achieve my ambitions.

“Some people would have to wait decades for an opportunity like this. But I’ve been very lucky in my career so far to have had some great experience with some amazing mentors, who have helped me develop into the professional standing I am today.”

Jenna is also excited about the opportunity to bring much-needed services in partnership with a business community for which human resources support in the modern environment is a critical ingredient for growth.

It’s not all been plain sailing for Jenna. She’s overcome significant issues to get where she is today.

For the past five years Jenna has overcome several chronic health issues. These have bought many serious challenges which her determination and strength of character have helped her rise above.

During this time she has continued to work long hours, gaining significant experience at a young age. Before setting up The HR Dept Docklands she was national manager of HR for a company working across Australia.

Now though, she’s fighting fit and ready to run the business, strengthened further by the knowledge that she’s backed by a company with over a decade of supporting franchisees across the globe.

The HR Dept is an international franchise business, recently launched in Australia but established in 2002, which provides outsourced HR advice and support in more than 100 territories and serves well over 6,000 SMEs across the UK, Ireland and Australia.

The company is launching simultaneously in three territories in Melbourne, with other businesswomen Lee-Anne Hunt and Tegan Rose launching in Ringwood and Jo Gazzola setting up in Essendon.

“Without The HR Dept I would not be able to take this step,” said Jenna. “It provides me with the opportunity to establish my own business but with the support and development from the franchise and its network.

“I found The HR Dept at a conference, it seemed like the right opportunity and when I met the people involved I knew it was something I had to go for.

“I loved my time in the corporate world but I always felt like I wanted to take a step out and do something on my own. Through my new company I will be able to solve problems, create solutions and build my own future.”

Jenna’s territory of operation will include Docklands, Montague, South Melbourne, Port Melbourne, Fishermans Bend, West Melbourne, North Melbourne, Kensington, Flemington and Newmarket. Over time, she hopes to expand her business by establishing a wider client base throughout territories across Victoria.

She said: “The area is changing, with large and small businesses forming a new community in Docklands. I want to help those businesses which are aiming to grow to get to the next level. In the current economic environment and the society we live in today, having good people processes in place is critical, to ensure employment legislation is adhered to and businesses retain highly skilled employees.”

Gemma Tumelty is managing director of The HR Dept. She said: “We are delighted that a franchisee with Jenna’s expertise and experience is helping us launch The HR Dept in Melbourne. It’s great news for SMEs in the area and I am confident that The HR Dept Docklands will be a great success.
